attempted to return defective battery - offered 50% off replacement

i have purchased several of these and was under the impression that the batteries are guarenteed for life. One of my batteries functions poorly and I attempted to return it. I was told at the kiosk that since it functioned partially, I would only get a 50% discount for a replacement.
